Kedarnath Overview

Kedarnath is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, the temple is set at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and an essential part of the Char Dham Yatra and Panch Kedar Yatra.

Best Time to Visit

  • May to June & September to October (Best season with clear weather)
  • July to August (Rainy season, risk of landslides)
  • November to April (Temple closed due to heavy snowfall)

How to Reach Kedarnath

  1. By Air:
    • The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) (250 km).
    • Helicopter services are available from Guptkashi, Phata, and Sirsi.
  2. By Train:
    • The nearest railway station is Rishikesh (216 km).
  3. By Road:
    • Haridwar/Rishikesh → Guptkashi → Sonprayag → Gaurikund → Kedarnath (18 km trek)
    • Shared taxis and buses are available from Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun.
